It was risky, but I don't really think you will have to worry about it considering your other wide receivers. Floyd is going to be seeing competition from Vincent Jackson once he returns from suspension, not to mention Antonio Gates and Legedu Naanee who are also recovering from injuries. However, I do see where your reasoning came from with Austin not being very productive since Kitna took the helm at QB and Dez Bryant receiving more looks. I don't really think you helped or hurt yourself too much at all, I think Austin and Floyd are on the same level.
